Our standard is bespoke - Moss wall in the Korbach town hall
For the redesign of the renovated and expanded town hall in the Hanseatic city of Korbach, we were commissioned with a moss and plant wall measuring 3.58 x 2.72m.
The idea was to have a mix of flat forest moss, raised cushion moss, and plants. So, we first headed to the desk to create an initial sketch - yes, we often still draw by hand. This was followed by a brief consultation with the client to see if our sketch met their expectations, and finally, it was time for implementation.
For the design of our plant elements, we chose, among other things, eucalyptus, various ferns, and foliage of different types. These plants are carefully arranged by us by hand and finally attached.
The base of all our moss pictures and moss walls almost always consists of flat forest moss, which we source from certified companies in Europe. Before processing, we clean it and remove any annoying pine needles. This is also how we handle the cushion moss we use - clean it, trim it if necessary, and add it to the picture.
Due to the size of the moss wall, we divided the picture into eight panels, numbered them, and finally assembled them on-site.
On-site, we were met by an impressive, newly designed building that combines the old with the modern. For this reason, the moss wall fits perfectly into the town hall's reception area.
The moss wall with real moss and plants is not only a visual highlight, but it also now helps to reduce sound in the high rooms designed with exposed concrete. Furthermore, maintenance tasks such as watering or misting are unnecessary; a moss wall and a moss picture require no light and are also perfectly suitable for allergy sufferers due to their dirt-repellent properties, as neither dust nor dirt can settle and the plants no longer bloom due to the preservation process.
