When the Glitter Spring, the heart of the forest, suddenly loses its power, Moosi and Maroni set off on a special journey together with the human children Leni and Lio. Amidst glowing mushrooms, hidden paths, and ancient stories, they discover that not all darkness is evil – and that true strength lies in being together.

The residents of the Mooswald

  • Chestnuts

Maroni is the adventurer: brave, playful, and a loyal soul through and through. He is Moosi’s very best friend – always there, always in the thick of things, and just the right one when it counts.

  • Moosy

Moosi is the most sensitive of them all. He senses the forest, has a special intuition for every living creature and plant – and is kindness personified. Anyone who meets Moosi immediately feels welcome.

  • Fungi

Fungi is a little mushroom with a big heart and an even bigger passion for collecting. A bit scatterbrained, but incredibly lovable—and his backpack is always full of surprises that might come in handy one day, or so he says.

These three – and many more lovable residents – are waiting for you in the Mooswald.

A first look inside the book ...

The Moss Forest was no ordinary forest. Not one of those you simply walk through without looking.

The Moss Forest wanted to be noticed. With the very first step inside, you felt that everything here was a little different. The ground was soft and springy, as if it were gently welcoming every visitor. Thick cushions of moss grew one over the other like green pillows, and between them snaked narrow paths that only became visible if you were kind enough to follow them.

The trees did not just stand there. They leaned toward one another, whispered in the wind, and reached out their branches as if to support each other. Some carried lamps made of glowing fungi in their crevices, others had small windows in their bark, behind which there was sometimes a quiet rustling or a warm shimmer.

For in the Moss Forest, almost every tree was a home. Small moss creatures lived between the thick roots of the old oaks. They built their dwellings directly into the earth, lined with soft moss, fern fronds, and tiny blossoms. Round doors led inside, often with small wooden knobs or carved symbols so that one knew who lived there.

In hollow tree trunks lived other forest dwellers. Ladders made of braided blades of grass hung there, and sometimes a dewdrop bell dangled in front of the entrance, ringing softly when someone came home.

Fungus folk had their houses under large mushroom caps that acted like protective umbrellas. Some of these caps glowed softly at night and bathed their surroundings in a warm light. Underneath, it was cozy, dry, and smelled of earth and security. ...

From idea to children's book

How it all began

Anyone who works with moss every day learns: nature has something magical about it. Something that never lets you go – no matter how old you get.

From this fascination, an idea was born one evening: What if little creatures lived in our moss? Creatures just as curious about the world as we still are.

Thus Moosi was born – a little moss creature with a big heart. But a creature like that naturally needs a friend. Someone who is always there, who joins in, and who doesn't give up, even in difficult moments. And so, it wasn't long before Maroni saw the light of day.

What began as an evening thought became a story about friendship, courage, and the magic of nature – told by two people who work with it every day themselves.
